Creating Data Flow Diagrams

The Data Flow Diagram (DFD) provides a graphical representation of the flow of data through a system. In your system design class you will need to create DFD's to show what information is exchanged by your system processes. Here's how you can to produce a good looking DFD.

1. Begin by launching the Gliffy website and signing into your account. Create a new blank drawing.

2. Next, choose the Basic Shapes library on the left pane. Click and drag the rounded rectangle object onto the drawing canvas. You can now enter text into the rounded rectangle object.

3. When you complete your Data Flow Diagram, choose Export as JPEG from the file menu. Here is what the Level 1 DFD for Tune Source Process 3 from chapter 5 looks like when drawn in Gliffy:
